Toddler Rooms

Toddlers

Our toddler provision is designed to support children as they become increasingly confident, curious and independent. We have two dedicated toddler rooms, carefully planned to meet the needs of children at different stages of development:

Toddler 1 (2–2½ years)

Toddler 1 is a welcoming and engaging environment where children continue to build confidence through play, exploration and positive relationships. As language develops and independence grows, our experienced practitioners provide a wide range of opportunities for children to learn, discover and make choices in a safe and nurturing setting.

Toddler 2 (2½–3 years)

In Toddler 2, children are encouraged to become even more independent as they prepare for their transition into our preschool environment. Activities are carefully planned around children’s interests, helping to develop confidence, communication, creativity, problem-solving and early learning skills through meaningful play experiences.

Learning Through Play

Both toddler rooms offer rich continuous provision, allowing children to independently access a wide range of resources throughout the day. These include construction, small world play, role play, books, creative activities, sensory experiences, mark making, puzzles, water and sand play, and a variety of opportunities to explore indoors and outdoors.

Our practitioners carefully observe children’s interests and development, using these to plan exciting activities that extend learning across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We believe children learn best when they are actively engaged, having fun and following their own curiosity.

Building Independence

The toddler years are an exciting time for developing independence and self-care skills. We support children with everyday routines such as handwashing, mealtimes, dressing themselves, tidying away and caring for their belongings.

We also work closely with families to support toilet training, following each child’s individual stage of readiness and ensuring a consistent approach between home and nursery.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor play is an important part of every day, whatever the weather. Our outdoor environment provides opportunities for children to develop their physical skills, confidence and coordination while exploring the natural world, taking managed risks and enjoying active play.

Working in Partnership with Families

Strong relationships with families remain at the heart of everything we do. Every child has a dedicated Key Person who supports their learning, wellbeing and development while maintaining regular communication with parents to celebrate achievements and share progress.

Each toddler room has a maximum of 14 children, allowing us to maintain a caring, nurturing environment with a staff-to-child ratio of 1:5. This ensures every child receives the individual attention, encouragement and support they need to flourish.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child feels valued, respected and able to reach their full potential. Our experienced team works closely with families and other professionals to ensure children with additional needs receive the personalised support they need to thrive.
