The learning journal offers a holistic insight into how each young child learns and progresses through the Early Years Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum. Practitioners will collect evidence of development and learning, which provides a useful foundation record as the child moves towards their reception year at school.
Observational assessments are used as the most accurate means of creating a clear picture of individual progression, and each nursery is free under EYFS Statutory Assessment requirements to create the journal in their own preferred way. Assessment includes contributions from the child, encouraging them to share their own thoughts and feelings on what they are learning, as well as from other adults who interact regularly with the child.
As parents, you can access your child’s learning journey online via our “Footsteps” platform, making it easier to see how your child is developing. Our observations, your child’s progress and also your child’s own words are captured and recorded, so that you can access them online at your convenience on a variety of devices, such as desktop, tablet and mobile.
